I am a Kansas girl who was born into evangelical Christianity and violently transplanted to another country to be a missionary kid (MK) at the age of 11. I spent 7 years in Mexico before moving back to the U.S. I did everything by the book (the Bible, and a few hundred books written by evangelicals) growing up, submitted to my parents, went to college, saved myself for marriage and got married young, tried to be the perfect wife and housekeeper despite the gaslighting and mistreatment I experienced behind closed doors in the church and in my own home and family. I secretly attended therapy for years, and then openly for a few years to try to figure out what I was doing wrong in my marriage and my life, despite skepticism about psychology and therapists in general from my family and church friends… and then everything fell apart. Shit hit the fan in 2017. I lost my religion and gained my life.  I ended up divorced at 32, in grad school to become a therapist, and generally happier and more at peace than I had ever been before.

You are not alone. You may have discovered online communities of people like you, people who have left religion and found a new way of living; but you may still feel stuck—stuck in patterns of fundamentalist black and white thinking, seeing people around you ostracize others based on a slim set of beliefs even if they aren’t religious, and seeing some of those traits in yourself that you’d rather not. You may be rigid in your thinking, unable to regulate your emotions, and generally just feel angry about everything that was done to you. The good news is that anger is the best catalyst for your healing. Apathy cannot propel you toward the life you want, but anger and grief certainly can. I can help you navigate the minefield of your past, your current emotions about it, and the other symptoms that persist after abuse at the hands of religiously well-intentioned zealots.

My Passion for
Social Work & Therapy

I have an MSW with a clinical focus specializing in trauma across the lifespan. I work with adults and prefer to take a client centered approach to therapy.

My degree is a master’s in social work from Western Michigan University with a focus on trauma across the lifespan.

I got this degree from a place of personal experience and passion, to be able to help others like me, people who had no choice in what to believe about themselves and the world, people who were handed a plate full of hatred of humanity and told this was the love and will of God.
